Ok guys, our first debate! Global Warming: Is it happening? Ok guys and gals, I'll start from the definition Global Warming: What is the greenhouse effect? The greenhouse effect is... The facts: - Global Warming is supposidly happening because of the rise in pollutions or toxins in the air.
- Ice Glaciers are melting very quickly, with no end in sight.
- CO2, (Cabon Dioxide) Has a long atmospheric life, meaning it stays a long time up there in the clouds.
What I'm basically saying is that there is no end, unless we plant a trillion trees and stop most polluting. (Which is almost impossible) My opinion: Global Warming will happen, unless we can find alternatives. Some charts: I'm not sure if anyone's against me, but if there are some people, BRING IT ON! We could also just have a discussion, but what fun is that? Sources: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_warming dictionary.reference.com/

Personally I think Global Warming is total Bullshit! Gases such as Carbon Dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour and ozone only make up 1/100% of the atmospheric gases. Nitrogen makes up 78% and Oxygen 21%. Other gases scuh as the Nobel gases are 1%. Even if the greenhouse gases were to reach 1% it would not make the big of a difference because that is so little compared to the amount of Oxygen and Nitrogen. Even if Global Warming is really happening and the Earth is getting warmer and the Ice caps are melting. So what. The Artic is made up of completly ice. It is already floating on the ocean and displacing water. If it were to melt and spread out there would maybe a slight rise in sea level but not enough to cause massive floods. Its bullshit. Feel free to critcize or state evidence that proves mine false.

Im wit Sel. Global warming is bullshit this is all affected(and proved true many times) by EL NINO!!! El nino is some air thing that comes around every 2 years i think it is and fucks up earths climate. Do u see this shit happening in other countries???No fucking way.

Ok guys, I agree, it isn't happening now but it WILL happen eventually, in another couple of 1,000s of years. I side with you guys, but just keep the swearing down, as Jack said.... Ok, so, keep the swearing down PLEASE, otherwise we wouldn't get the great benefit by our Master Jack to do this.

Aside from global warming, there are many results that come from the heating of the earth. Mostly taken from The Day After Tomorrow: If the ice caps are melting.. then the ratio of salt water to fresh water (concealed in the glaciers) is going to change rapidly, which very well could result in Hurricanes; as shown by the movie. Causes for Hurricanes: The ones highlighted in green can be sustained by the change in salt/fresh water. Salt water is more dense than fresh water and can cause a change in water pressure and temperature when the fresh water rises. Very similar to what the air does for a tornado. Glaciers are melting at a very rapid rate nowadays. Here's just a couple examples.Global warming is not going to affect us in our lifetime, but as shown by this statistic, the carbon dioxide levels, clearly given off by our vehicles is going to keep increasing unless alternate fuel is found. Very slightly off topic, but this might give some info for future reference. Although everybody thinks "Ooh, they're destroying the trees, we're going to all die!" Well yes.. Trees do give a large quantity of oxygen to the Earth, BUT only half of the earth's oxygen is produced by trees, the other half is produced by Phytoplankton on the earth's seabed. Have a look at this: Now, if the glaciers go off melting, don't you think the naturally salt water plankton might start dying off due to a change in habitat? Lol, there's my piece of teh argument.

Wow Blitz, an actually good typed debate.
I have to agree but....! but....! but.... I uhm, started the debate!! So I win!
Lol, jk, good one though Blitz

Ty. Any more points? I'd like to hear more from the anti-Globowarm side. I mean, it's possible that it's not happening.. but show teh proof!

Well, looking at that fancy chart that we both used, I see that there was Ice Ages that cooled down the CO2 rate. So, if another one hits, It'll freeze most technology and stuff, kill most use of cars, and even kill many people. As you can see, that is what can throw the world back around, so maybe if we somehow trigger an Ice Age, we can save us! (With of course, killing millions) We could get another Ice Age, but yes, Global Warming will most likely screw up the world so much, that Ice Ages won't happen for another 100 thousand years or so. Add on: By 100 thousand years, the world will be so messed up, that there will be no turning back.

Add on: By 100 thousand years, the world will be so messed up, that there will be no turning back. "I'd like to share a revelation I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species, and I realized that you're not actually mammals. You see, every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You spread to an area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet."
-Agent Smith
We're not going to stop until it's all gone. That's what human nature has come to be. Then we'll eventually get off this planet and go ruin another one.

Amen! Instead of debating about Global Warming, let's debate which planet to take over ;D Maybe Pluto? But wait, that's not a planet... It still is cold enough there.

I just watched a movie about global warming last night. It changed the way I thought about EVERYthing, I recommend this movie to everyone. If you want to know everything about Global Warming, you need to watch "An Inconvenient Truth" www.climatecrisis.net/trailer/www.climatecrisis.netMore facts: Increased water temperatures increases storm size, wind speeds, and storm intensity. Global warming causes more evaporation, causing droughts and holding more water in the clouds, so when storm conditions trigger a storm, they are more violent and bigger problems. Snow is melting higher in mountains, letting the mosquitos live at higher elevations because they aren't dying like nature intended. Greenland is the biggest land-based source of glaciers aside from Antarctica and the North Pole. If it is to continue on it's course, it, along with the western half of Antartica (also melting at a rapid rate) will raise sea levels 20 feet each. Future Problems:

I honestly don't have an opinion on weather (hehe weather) it's true or false, but the climate is certainly changing... Like I said in the Bands thread, my hometown got covered with lake-effect snow. We got around 6 feet of snow and people were shoveling all week (when there was no school yay). People were even told to shovel their roofs so they don't collapse
Were supota get even more snow here wednesday for valentines day, but this time it's not lake effect, it's the real deal *scary little tune that you prolly all know plays... you know... the one that goes "bum bum bummmmmmmm." That one.*
